Opposition Leaders’ Visits to Kwankwaso Aim to Build Unity Against APC

KANO, NIGERIA – A chieftain of the Kwankwassiya movement has revealed that recent visits by opposition leaders to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso are part of a broader strategy to forge a united front against the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Wednesday, the Kwankwassiya member disclosed that the series of high-profile meetings—including recent engagements with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other opposition figures—are aimed at building a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling party.

“These are not mere courtesy visits. There is a deliberate effort to bring together key opposition forces. The goal is to build unity against the APC,” the source said.

Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and a former governor of Kano State, has been actively courting alliances with disenchanted politicians from other parties. His movement has grown in influence, particularly in the North-West region.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition parties to consolidate ahead of the next election cycle, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party also exploring coalition possibilities.

Neither Kwankwaso nor the other opposition leaders have officially confirmed any coalition agreement. However, political analysts see the moves as a significant step toward opposition realignment.
