Tension, Chaos at APC Convention as Journalists Fight for Access Tags

ABUJA, NIGERIA – Tension and chaos erupted at the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention on Friday as journalists and media practitioners scrambled for access tags, leading to heated confrontations with security operatives.

Hundreds of journalists from various media organizations besieged the accreditation center set up for the convention, only to be met with a shortage of tags and what many described as a disorganized distribution process. Frustration mounted as some journalists were turned away while others reportedly obtained multiple tags through dubious means.

In some instances, altercations broke out between journalists and security personnel, with verbal exchanges escalating into pushing and shoving. Some media houses accused the party’s media accreditation committee of favoritism and lack of transparency.

“This is unacceptable. We are here to cover a national event, and we are being treated like intruders,” one journalist lamented.

The APC National Working Committee has yet to officially address the accreditation crisis. However, a party source assured that efforts were being made to resolve the situation before the convention officially kicks off on Saturday.

The convention, which will elect new national officers, has drawn thousands of delegates and observers from across the country.
