Israel: Iran Effectively Controls Lebanon as Ambassador Stays

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL – Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has accused Iran of effectively controlling Lebanon, pointing to the presence of an Iranian ambassador in Beirut past a deadline for his expulsion and ongoing rocket attacks on Israel.

In a post on X, Sa’ar stated that the Iranian ambassador remained in Lebanon despite a deadline for the country to declare him persona non grata, calling this evidence that Lebanon is “effectively under Iranian control.”

He also noted that approximately 5,000 rockets, shells, and drones have been fired from Lebanese territory toward Israel since March 2, including from areas south of the Litani River—zones the Lebanese army had claimed were under its operational control.

Sa’ar further pointed out that ministers from Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group, remain in the Lebanese government.

“Lebanon will not regain its freedom unless it confronts Iranian influence and Hezbollah,” Sa’ar declared.

The Lebanese government has not yet responded to the Israeli minister’s allegations. The remarks come amid escalating cross-border tensions following recent clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.
