WASHINGTON DC, USA – Former President Donald Trump has escalated his rhetoric against Iran, declaring in a new interview that his “favourite thing” would be to seize the country’s oil as tensions continue to rise over Tehran’s nuclear programme and regional activities.
Speaking to a conservative media outlet on Sunday, Trump outlined a hardline vision for dealing with the Islamic Republic, suggesting that the United States should take control of Iran’s oil resources to cripple the regime’s economy.
“My favourite thing is to take Iran’s oil. You take their oil, you take their power. That regime collapses fast,” Trump said.
The remarks represent a significant escalation in Trump’s campaign rhetoric as he eyes a potential return to the White House. His comments come amid ongoing military exchanges between Israel and Iran, including strikes on Iranian naval assets and nuclear facilities.
The Biden administration has maintained a policy of containing Iran through diplomacy and sanctions, but Trump’s statement suggests a far more aggressive posture should he return to office.
Iranian officials have not yet responded to Trump’s comments. The Islamic Republic is a major OPEC producer, and any attempt to seize its oil would likely trigger a dramatic military response and shock global energy markets.
