Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged a coordinated plot to frustrate the planned national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the alleged move as an abuse of power and a threat to internal party democracy.
In a strongly worded reaction, Atiku expressed concern that certain forces were attempting to undermine due process within the party, warning that such actions could weaken democratic institutions and political stability.
He argued that political parties must be allowed to conduct their internal affairs without interference, stressing that the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic system depends on respect for the rule of law and 0party autonomy.
The allegation comes amid ongoing tensions within the ADC over leadership structures and preparations for its forthcoming national convention, which is expected to shape the party’s direction ahead of future elections.
Atiku urged stakeholders and party members to remain vigilant and committed to democratic principles, insisting that no individual or group should be allowed to impose obstacles on legitimate political processes.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the party or the individuals allegedly implicated in the claim.
Political analysts say the development may further heighten internal divisions within the ADC as parties reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
