ESOCS Chancellor Challenges Prelate’s Directive on ‘Seceders,’ Calls for Retraction

A top official of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim (ESOCS) Worldwide has publicly rebuked a recent church directive ordering members to dissociate from so-called “seceders,” warning that the order violates Christian principles of liberty, love, and unity.

In a formal letter dated April 16, 2026, addressed to the Prelate of ESOCS Worldwide, His Most Eminence Baba Aladura Dr. David Dabaye Lamjose Bob-Manuel, the Chancellor to the Prelate, His Eminence Sup. Ap. General Ephraim F. Faloughi, expressed “deep concern and principled disagreement” with the April 13 directive.

Faloughi argued that the instruction telling members where they may or may not worship constitutes an overreach of spiritual authority. “No man, regardless of office or title, has the divine authority to dictate where another believer should worship,” he wrote, citing John 4:23.

The Chancellor took particular issue with the directive’s use of the terms “gang” and “seceders,” calling the language “harsh” and contrary to the teachings of Christ. Citing Matthew 7:1 and Romans 14:4, he warned that branding fellow believers fosters division and spiritual intimidation.

Faloughi pointed to an apparent inconsistency: during ESOCS’s centenary celebration in September 2025, the TESOCS faction was invited and given a stand “in the spirit of ecumenical.”

He urged the Prelate to retract the directive, refrain from divisive language, and seek peaceful dialogue. “I cannot, in good conscience, support or align with any directive that contradicts the teachings of Christ,” he concluded.
