NNPP Chieftain Aminu Ringim Defects to ADC in Jigawa, Vows to Strengthen Opposition

The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Jigawa State and former governorship candidate, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside thousands of his supporters .

Ringim announced his defection on Saturday, April 25, 2026, during his formal membership registration with the ADC in Ringim, his hometown in Ringim Local Government Area . The event reportedly drew a large crowd of supporters and state party officials, creating a carnival-like atmosphere .

Addressing the gathering, Ringim stated that his decision was driven by the need to collaborate with like-minded politicians to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including insecurity, inflation, hunger, and unemployment . He urged Nigerians to unite to confront what he described as the “hardship and humiliation” under the current administration .

“This decision is about building a stronger platform that can truly serve the people of Jigawa and Nigeria,” Ringim said .

The former NNPP chieftain dismissed speculations that the ADC coalition would collapse after its primaries, pointing to ongoing political alignments across the country as evidence of growing unity . “They said Obi, Kwankwaso and Atiku will not be together, and now they are together. Now they are saying after the party primaries, ADC will not survive,” he stated .

Ringim, who previously contested the Jigawa State governorship election under the PDP in 2015 and 2019, and the NNPP in 2023, has reportedly been a close political associate of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recently joined the ADC .

He called on his supporters across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas to register with the ADC en masse and disclosed that more than 15 million Nigerians had already registered with the party, with a target of additional 30 million registrations nationwide ahead of the 2027 polls .
