Hon. Chris Nkwonta, Member representing Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency and committee chairman Southeast Development Commission at the Green Chamber, has terminated the appointment of his former Senior Special Assistant on Empowerment and Job Creation, Kingsley Nna Okadigbo, citing persistent disloyalty and anti-party activities.
Sources close to the lawmaker confirmed that Okadigbo’s refusal to align with Nkwonta’s political vision after his October 2024 defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) created an irreconcilable working relationship. “You cannot serve in a progressive office while actively undermining the party’s mandate,” a senior legislative aide stated.
Contrary to Okadigbo’s claims of victimisation, Nkwonta’s camp insists the dismissal followed months of insubordination and attempts to politicise routine constituency correspondence. The lawmaker’s team dismissed allegations of intolerance to accountability, noting that Nkwonta has consistently facilitated transparent constituency projects since joining the APC.
“Okadigbo stopped reporting to duty months ago—a clear dereliction of responsibility—yet he expects sympathy,” the source added. The office also rejected claims of poor remuneration, clarifying that all aides receive standard National Assembly packages with approved allowances.
Nkwonta’s supporters argue the former aide’s public outburst exposes his true motive: positioning himself for future political relevance at the expense of his former principal. “This is not about accountability; it is about personal ambition and bitterness over a principled political realignment,” a Ukwa West stakeholder said.
The lawmaker remains focused on delivering democratic dividends to Ukwa constituents through the APC platform, undistracted by what allies describe as “sour grapes from a disgruntled former appointee.”
