The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly refuted recent allegations of financial misconduct leveled against Governor Seyi Makinde by a group identifying itself as the Save Oyo Movement (SOM) .
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Michael Ogunsina, the PDP described the allegations that the governor spent billions of naira in public funds on political activities as “entirely speculative and lacking any credible basis” .
“No verifiable document, budgetary reference, procurement record or audit trail has been presented to support the claims,” the party stated, urging the public to disregard what it termed a deliberate spread of misinformation .
The PDP further noted that any attempt to link funds allocated for specific government interventions, such as support for victims of tragic incidents, to unrelated political narratives was “insensitive” and misleading .
The party maintained that the Makinde administration has consistently prioritized transparency and accountability, pointing to measurable progress across sectors including infrastructure, workers’ welfare, education, healthcare, and security as evidence of prudent resource management .
The response came after the Save Oyo Movement criticized the governor for alleged financial mismanagement, accusing him of wasting over a billion naira on political activities and the failed coronation of high chiefs in Ibadan .
