Troops Pound Suspected Terrorists’ Camps in Kwara, Recover Six Dane Guns

Troops of the 22 Brigade, Sector 1 of Operation Safe South-South (OPSS), have conducted a clearance operation in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, destroying suspected terrorist makeshift camps and recovering weapons .

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, the operation commenced at about 6:00 a.m. on April 24, 2026. Troops departed their harbour area at Kamenji and advanced towards Tungan Mariga as part of a coordinated effort to flush out criminal elements operating within the area .

During the operation, troops discovered and destroyed suspected terrorist camps at Nuku village. Six Dane guns were recovered from the hideouts during the clearance exercise .

The troops thereafter proceeded to Woro village, where the commanding officer addressed personnel and conducted an on‑the‑spot assessment of the ongoing operation. The visit was aimed at boosting morale and ensuring operational effectiveness .

As part of efforts to strengthen the mission, troops were equipped with an additional armoured personnel carrier mounted with a QJC weapon system to enhance combat capability and mobility in the terrain .

The operation was conducted without resistance and ended successfully, according to military sources .

The development comes after recent deadly attacks in the same region, including an incident on April 20 where terrorists killed three soldiers and two vigilantes in Kemanji community, carting away weapons and an army gun truck .
