Stakeholders Buy APC Governorship Forms for Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu

A coalition of political stakeholders and opinion leaders has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination and expression of interest forms for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

The forms were formally presented to Kalu in Abuja on Saturday, May 2, 2026, by the delegation, who urged him to join the Abia State governorship race. The group cited Kalu’s strong leadership qualities and his track record in public service as key reasons for their action.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, James Uko-Kalu, described the Deputy Speaker as a unifying figure whose performance in the National Assembly has distinguished him as a competent and capable leader.

Also speaking, retired Major General Jack Nwaogbu from Abia Central Senatorial District commended Kalu for fostering unity within the APC both in Abia and across the South-East region, noting the remarkable rejuvenation of the party in recent months.

In his response, Deputy Speaker Kalu thanked the stakeholders for the gesture, describing it as a significant show of confidence in his leadership. However, he stopped short of formally declaring his intention to run, stating that he would consult widely before taking a final decision.

“I have received it with gratitude, and within the next one or two days, after due consultations, I will make my position known,” Kalu said.
