BENIN CITY – Loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State have raised a strong alarm over the alleged imposition of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that the move risks causing a massive, avoidable defeat for the party.
The aggrieved stakeholders, primarily from Edo South, expressed dissatisfaction with the current party leadership’s approach, accusing them of sidelining foundational members in favor of new interests.
Reports indicate that loyalists feel pressured to support “preferred aspirants” rather than engaging in a free and fair democratic process.
“If the APC ignores its loyal base and imposes candidates without credibility or history in the party, it risks losing its stronghold… 2027 will not be won on assumptions,” a stakeholder statement warned.
The group highlighted that continued intimidation and marginalization of loyalists could weaken the party’s structure, urging Governor Monday Okpebholo to intervene and restore internal democracy to ensure party unity before 2027.
