The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Senator, Sam Egwu, as chairman of its screening committee for aspirants seeking various elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, with the 17-member committee inaugurated on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, as part of the party’s formal preparations for the next electoral cycle.
Egwu, a former two-term governor and ex-senator, is tasked with leading the panel responsible for screening aspirants seeking presidential, governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives tickets on the NDC platform.
The party named its National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, as secretary of the committee, while Babatunde Ali will serve as deputy chairman. Other members include Buba Galadima, Mohammed Takori, Ikeddy Isiguzo, Wole Adedayo, and several other party leaders and professionals.
The committee’s inauguration coincided with the screening of Peter Obi, the NDC’s widely anticipated presidential aspirant, who arrived at the party’s national secretariat accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh, submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms through an aide.
The NDC’s 2027 machinery is clearly now in full motion.
