Violence Erupts in Ondo as Gunshots and Chaos Disrupt APC Senatorial and House Primaries

The internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State took a violent and alarming turn as gunshots were reportedly fired and party primaries were disrupted across multiple locations, casting a dark shadow over the conduct of the exercise and deepening fears of a full-blown internal collapse.

Eyewitness accounts described scenes of pandemonium at several primary venues as thugs allegedly loyal to rival political factions stormed proceedings, sending delegates and party officials fleeing for safety. The disruptions rendered the primary exercise incomplete in a number of affected areas, raising serious questions about the validity of results where voting eventually took place.

The violence is the latest and most severe flashpoint in an escalating power struggle within the Ondo APC, which has been boiling over internal disagreements around candidate selection, zoning arrangements, and the influence of competing political godfathers ahead of the general election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies are yet to issue formal statements, while senior APC leaders have been urged to intervene immediately before the situation spirals further out of control.
