Political Storm in Kaduna: APC Senatorial Aspirants Reject Primaries, Issue 48-Hour Ultimatum for Cancellation

A fierce political storm has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, as aggrieved senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants have boldly rejected the outcome of the party’s recently conducted primaries and issued a stern 48-hour ultimatum demanding their immediate cancellation.

The aggrieved aspirants, led by former Senator Danjuma Laah alongside Michael Ayuba Auta and Yusuf Bala Ikara, staged a protest after addressing a press conference at the NUJ secretariat in Kaduna, calling on the APC National Working Committee to cancel primaries conducted across Kaduna North, Kaduna Central, and Kaduna South senatorial districts and conduct fresh direct primaries under national party supervision.

The coalition accused party leaders in Kaduna State of imposing consensus candidates without the consent of all cleared contestants, alleging that committees overseeing the exercises openly claimed they were acting under the directives of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

Senator Laah alleged the primaries violated Article 20 of the APC Constitution, which stipulates that consensus arrangements are only valid where all cleared aspirants voluntarily sign a written agreement.

The crisis was described as most severe in Kaduna Central Senatorial District, where the consensus committee allegedly attempted to impose former Senator Shehu Sani as sole consensus candidate.

The APC national leadership is yet to officially respond.
