A former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Udo Oluchi Ibeji, has officially joined the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, declaring that supporting Governor Alex Otti is a “patriotic duty” for every Abia citizen who desires progress
Ibeji, who previously represented the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, announced his defection in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 . He described his decision as a deliberate move to align with the visionary leadership currently transforming the state.
According to the former lawmaker, Governor Otti’s performance since assuming office has demonstrated a rare commitment to infrastructural development, workers’ welfare, and good governance, making it imperative for well-meaning Abians to rally behind him .
“It is the patriotic duty of every Abia son and daughter who loves the progress of Abia to stand by and support Gov Alex Otti to sustain the wonderful work he is doing in Abia state,” Ibeji stated .
He further urged other political leaders in the state to put aside partisan differences and prioritize the collective interest of Abia people by supporting the governor’s developmental agenda .
Ibeji’s defection adds to the growing political realignment in Abia State, where Governor Otti’s leadership continues to attract cross-party support . The former federal lawmaker’s entry into the Labour Party is expected to strengthen the party’s structure in Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency ahead of future elections .
