Chijioke Chukwu Emerges Abia APC Chairman in Peaceful Congress

Hon. Chijioke Chukwu has been elected as the new State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, following a peaceful and successful state congress held today, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Umuahia .

Chukwu, a former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly and a close ally of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, emerged through a consensus arrangement backed by a “unity list” from party stakeholders . His emergence marks the culmination of the party’s internal reorganisation process, which began with Ward and Local Government congresses last week .

The congress, supervised by a National Working Committee (NWC) team led by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar, was conducted peacefully, with party leaders and members commending the transparent process . Chidi Avajah was elected as the new State Secretary alongside the new executive .

In his acceptance speech, Chukwu expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and members for their confidence in him. He pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on reconciling aggrieved members and building a formidable grassroots structure .

“I am deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve our great party. We will work tirelessly to unite every member and position the APC as the party to beat in Abia State come 2027,” Chukwu stated .

The new Chairman also commended the outgoing leadership for laying a foundation and assured that the APC under his watch would prioritise internal democracy and the welfare of members .

Congratulations have continued to pour in from party faithful across the state, with many describing Chukwu’s emergence as a new chapter for the APC in Abia .
