The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has released a comprehensive list of documents and electronic devices allegedly recovered during the February 19 raid on the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai .
In court filings before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, the anti-graft agency detailed items it claims were seized in the presence of El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza, and his son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai . The commission is contesting a N1 billion fundamental rights suit filed by the former governor challenging his arrest, detention, and the search of his home .
Documents and Devices Listed
According to the ICPC’s filings, the seized items include a wide range of financial and official records:
· Records of domestic and foreign loans approved by the Kaduna State House of Assembly (2015–2023)
· Asset declaration forms and investor account statements
· Corporate compliance records and client Know-Your-Customer files
· Ecobank Nigeria Plc share certificates and land documents
· Irrevocable Powers of Attorney for multiple properties
Electronic devices reportedly recovered include:
· Nine flash drives, one memory card, and seven hard drives
· Multiple laptops, including Apple MacBook Pro and Elumac Book Pro models
· Mobile phones: Blackberry, Nokia N95, Toshiba, Samsung IDEOS, Google IDEOS, and 18 other devices
· A Remarkable tablet with chargers
The commission stated that all items were documented, sealed, and prepared for forensic analysis, adding that El-Rufai noted he did not grant consent for access to any of the devices .
Family Fires Back
However, in a fiery statement on Monday, El-Rufai’s son, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, dismissed the ICPC’s claims as a “circus of chicanery” and a “work of fiction” .
The family insisted that only “old discarded personal mobile phones—some dating back as much as 20 years—storage devices like flash drives and laptops, which are standard possessions of any 21st-century citizen” were taken during the raid .
“The alleged ‘sophisticated tapping equipment’ and ‘sensitive security documents’ exist only in the fevered imagination of the ICPC and its press team,” the statement read .
The family also accused the commission of attempting to weaponize El-Rufai’s constitutional right to silence, arguing that exercising this right cannot be lawfully construed as non-cooperation or guilt . They further alleged that the search warrant was “forged and fraudulently procured,” noting that their legal team has challenged its legitimacy in court .
