The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has accused Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, of failing to fulfil agreements reached with the union, declaring that it is no longer willing to accept what it described as “empty promises.”
CDA News Nigeria reports that the union, during a press conference in Jalingo, said the state government had failed to implement commitments made after the suspension of the 2024 industrial action, particularly regarding the payment of earned academic allowances and salary arrears.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the ASUU chapter alleged that although the government promised to make monthly payments to address members’ grievances, only one payment was made, leaving several commitments outstanding. The union also claimed that a directive by Governor Kefas to clear outstanding entitlements before the end of 2025 had yet to be fully implemented.
ASUU further expressed concern over what it described as the government’s silence despite several letters sent to the governor’s office and relevant ministries seeking dialogue on the unresolved issues. The union warned that continued inaction could trigger further industrial action if urgent steps are not taken to honour existing agreements.
The lecturers called on the Taraba State Government to take immediate and concrete action to restore confidence and ensure industrial harmony at the university.
