Katsina Bans POS, Jerrycan Fuel Sales to Curb Banditry

The Katsina State Government has announced a statewide ban on the sale, purchase, transportation and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans as part of fresh measures to curb banditry and kidnapping .

Governor Dikko Radda announced the restrictions through an Executive Order issued after an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders on Monday night .

The government said the measure is designed to prevent fuel supplies from being diverted to criminal elements operating in remote locations .

As part of the Executive Order, the governor also approved the immediate closure of all Point of Sale businesses and commercial phone charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas . Security assessments indicated these facilities were being exploited by criminal networks to facilitate their operations .

The order also prohibits the use of motorcycles throughout the two local government areas, a move the government said would hinder the mobility of bandits and kidnappers who often rely on motorcycles to carry out attacks and evade security forces .

Governor Radda urged residents to comply fully with the directives and support security agencies by providing credible information . He warned that violators would face the full weight of the law .
