The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress that its governorship candidate, Professor Isa Pantami, remains a member of the ruling party.
In a statement on Tuesday, the PDP described the APC’s assertion as “laughable” and an indication of “ignorance of the Electoral Act and our party’s constitution.”
The Gombe PDP fired back at the APC, insisting that Pantami is a bonafide party member having fulfilled all constitutional and legal requirements. The PDP claimed it possesses documentary evidence of Pantami’s resignation from the APC, which was acknowledged by his ward chairman on May 19, 2026.
“We wish to categorically state that Professor Pantami is a bona fide member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having duly complied with all the constitutional and legal requirements for membership of our party,” the statement partly read.
The PDP accused the APC of repeatedly revisiting a settled issue, noting that this was the third time the party had organised a press conference on the same matter.
The party urged the APC to focus on preparing for the forthcoming general election rather than engaging in what it termed “unnecessary distractions.”
