Ekiti Police Nab Man Over Fake Bandit Attack Video

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a man, Sunday Olawale, for allegedly spreading a fake video that claimed bandits had attacked Are Ekiti in the Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed in a statement that the suspect was tracked and arrested on June 14, 2026, at the Ekute area of Ado Ekiti. He is facing charges of cyberstalking and giving false information intended to incite a breakdown of law and order.

According to the police, the viral video circulated on June 12, 2026, but was quickly confirmed to be false. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to peddling the false information but could not provide a satisfactory reason for his actions.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Command reiterated that no bandit invasion occurred in Are Ekiti or any other part of the state, assuring residents that the security situation remains under control.

The State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, warned that the Command would not tolerate the spread of fake news capable of causing public panic. He advised members of the public to always verify information before sharing it on social media.
