Nasarawa Speaker Wades Into Mining Company, Communities’ Feud

Lafia – The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has intervened to resolve a lingering feud between a mining company and host communities in the Kokona Local Government Area.

The conflict stemmed from allegations of unfair compensation and environmental damage caused by the company’s operations.

During a mediation meeting, Speaker Jatau urged both parties to embrace peace for the sake of development.

“We cannot achieve progress in an atmosphere of crisis,” Jatau stated. “I am appealing for calm while we find a lasting solution that benefits everyone.”

The Speaker has set up a committee comprising community leaders and company representatives to investigate the grievances and recommend a resolution within two weeks.

Community leaders expressed hope that the intervention would lead to better compensation and environmental safeguards.
