Ibadan, Oyo State — The University of Ibadan (UI) has appointed a new Vice-Chancellor to lead Nigeria’s premier university, marking a new phase in the institution’s academic and administrative leadership.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the appointment followed the university’s selection process conducted by the Governing Council in line with the provisions guiding the appointment of principal officers in federal universities.
The new Vice-Chancellor is expected to oversee the institution’s academic programmes, research initiatives, infrastructure development and overall administration while advancing the university’s vision of excellence in teaching, learning and innovation.
“The appointment is expected to strengthen the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research and institutional development,” the university said.
Members of the university community have expressed optimism that the new leadership will consolidate on the achievements of previous administrations and address key challenges facing the institution, including research funding, staff welfare, student development and infrastructure.
The new Vice-Chancellor is expected to assume office in accordance with the timeline approved by the Governing Council and begin implementing policies aimed at sustaining the University of Ibadan’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading higher institutions.
