Washington, D.C. — United States President Donald Trump has reportedly commended Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in combating terrorism and protecting Christian communities across the country.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Trump’s remarks came during discussions on security and bilateral relations, where he acknowledged Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to address insurgency, violent extremism and other security challenges affecting parts of the country.
According to reports, Trump praised the Federal Government’s commitment to improving national security and safeguarding the rights of citizens regardless of their religious affiliation. He also reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against terrorism.
“We commend the efforts being made to combat terrorism and protect innocent lives, including Christian communities affected by violence,” Trump was quoted as saying.
Security analysts say stronger collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners could enhance intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism operations and capacity building for security agencies.
The Nigerian government has continued to maintain that it remains committed to defeating terrorism, restoring peace in affected communities and ensuring the safety of all citizens irrespective of religion or ethnicity.
Further details are expected as both countries continue diplomatic engagements on security and economic cooperation.
