Umuahia, Abia State — The Labour Party Youth Leader in Ikwuano Local Government Area, Comrade Okechukwu Matthew, has alleged that he was subjected to abusive and discriminatory remarks by supporters and members of the media team of the Executive Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, following his public comments on the council’s revenue controversy and a community electricity project.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Matthew claimed he was mocked over his disability after demanding an independent investigation into allegations made by former revenue collector Prince Ihechi Igbokwe and opposing the commissioning of an electricity project which he alleged had not been fully inspected and tested by the community committee.
According to Matthew, he believes public officials and their supporters should engage critics with facts rather than personal attacks or discriminatory language.
“No one should be abused or discriminated against for demanding accountability. My position has always been that the issues raised should be investigated and the electricity project should only be commissioned after proper inspection,” Matthew said.
The Executive Mayor’s administration has previously denied allegations relating to the revenue dispute and has described accusations against the council as false and politically motivated. As of the time of filing this report, CDA News Nigeria has independently verified Matthew’s latest allegations regarding the alleged abusive comments.
The controversy continues to generate public debate, with some stakeholders calling for an independent investigation into the revenue allegations while urging all parties to conduct public discourse respectfully and avoid discriminatory remarks.
