Ikwuano LP Youth Leader Criticises Mayor, Cites Alleged Payment Evidence in Revenue Dispute

Ikwuano , Abia State — The Labour Party Youth Leader in Ikwuano Local Government Area, Comrade Okechukwu Matthew, has intensified his criticism of the Executive Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, over the ongoing revenue collection controversy involving former revenue collector Prince Ihechi Igbokwe.

CDA News Nigeria reports that Matthew alleged that evidence circulating on social media, including what are claimed to be bank payment slips, supports Igbokwe’s allegations that payments were made to accounts allegedly belonging to the Mayor, the Mayor’s wife and the Chief of Staff. Matthew called on the relevant anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies to conduct an independent investigation into the claims.

“The allegations should be investigated thoroughly. If the payment slips circulating on social media are genuine, the appropriate authorities should establish the facts. Everyone involved deserves a fair hearing under the law,” Matthew said.

The controversy stems from allegations made by former revenue collector Prince Ihechi Igbokwe, who claims he made payments to individuals connected with the local government while carrying out revenue collection duties. The Executive Mayor’s office has previously denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious and politically motivated.

The matter is expected to attract further attention as stakeholders continue to call for an independent investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
