Flood Sacks Ogidi Monarch from Palace as Waters Submerge Residence

OGIDI — The traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Majesty Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi, has been forced to vacate his palace after floodwaters submerged the entire compound, including several exotic cars parked within the premises .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that days of torrential rainfall across Anambra State have crippled economic activities and triggered flooding in several communities, with the monarch’s palace being the latest casualty . Ogidi has long been notorious for flooding and erosion, with a section of the Awka-Onitsha old road remaining impassable for years .

CDA News Nigeria reports that Governor Chukwuma Soludo visited the flood-prone area before the 2025 governorship election and pledged to fix the road, but work is yet to commence, leaving homes and businesses submerged repeatedly . In September-October 2025, Ogidi residents reportedly raised N50 million to support Soludo’s campaign, hoping for government intervention that has not materialized .

The monarch’s displacement follows a May 2026 protest where Ogidi youths knelt in dirty water, pleading for urgent government action . As of press time, it was unclear where the first-class monarch relocated to .
