…Defence Minister Insists APC Will Win Kaduna, Presidential Election

The Federal Government has dismissed claims by opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso that President Bola Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains confident of retaining power .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, stated during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the APC would win the presidential, governorship, and other elections in Kaduna State, rejecting suggestions of growing opposition to the ruling party in the North . Musa described the perceived rejection of the APC as a matter of perception, arguing that some critics were driven by personal frustrations .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Musa also defended President Tinubu’s economic policies, acknowledging that the administration had taken “very painful decisions” whose benefits would become clearer over time . “I can tell you, APC will win,” the minister declared .

The minister’s comments came shortly after Obi and Kwankwaso addressed supporters at a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, where they vowed to resist any attempt to manipulate the 2027 polls . Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), told supporters that voters would defend their ballots at polling units, while Kwankwaso argued that controlling state governments does not guarantee presidential victory, citing the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 .

The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, also dismissed the opposition’s claims as “cheap talk” and “wishful thinking,” reminding Obi and Kwankwaso that former President Muhammadu Buhari won re-election as a sitting president in 2019 . “Presidential election is not won on empty rhetoric or wishful thinking,” Basiru said .
