Police Alert: Terrorists Spying On Schools, Targets

Nigeria Police Force has alerted its formations nationwide to intelligence indicating increased mobilisation of terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks on schools, worship centres, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the alert, issued by the Department of Operations, warned that attacks could coincide with the 2026/2027 academic session, prompting heightened surveillance and security measures nationwide.

According to the police, armed elements were reportedly moving from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State, while suspected ISWAP operatives and local collaborators were conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of potential targets. Commissioners of police were directed to intensify intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and rapid-response measures, alongside tighter monitoring of border areas.

The Defence Headquarters, through Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, confirmed it was monitoring the situation, while NSCDC spokesman Babafemi Afolabi disclosed that tactical squads had already thwarted over 100 attempted attacks on schools, urging parents not to let fear keep children away from school.

Former AIG Ali Amodu and ex-DSS Director Mike Ejiofor urged security agencies to strengthen preventive measures and the public to report suspicious activities. National PTA Secretary Ibrahim Nabayi called for revival of the Safe School Initiative and technology-based surveillance within a five-kilometre radius of schools.

The alert follows previous attacks, including the May 2026 abduction of 49 pupils and teachers in Oyo State, and a similar DSS warning to religious leaders in Osun State ahead of 2027.

CDA News Nigeria will continue monitoring security developments nationwide.
