…Mass Walkout Led by Arab, Muslim, African, and Latin American Nations
NEW YORK — Seventy-seven delegations left or were absent from the United Nations General Assembly hall as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his address on Thursday, according to an Israeli count cited by multiple media reports.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the walkout, described as a major diplomatic protest against Israel’s war on Gaza, was led by representatives of Arab, Muslim, African, and Latin American countries. Reports from the scene indicated that delegates from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Algeria, Colombia, South Africa, and Indonesia were among those who left the chamber.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that as he took the podium, Netanyahu addressed the emptying hall, stating: “If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now”. The session’s presiding officer repeatedly called for order amid jeers and boos from remaining delegates.
The mass protest echoed Netanyahu’s previous UN appearance in September 2025, when scores of delegates also walked out. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who addressed the Assembly by video after being barred from New York, received loud applause from delegates, marking a sharp contrast with the Israeli Prime Minister’s reception.
