The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five suspects over the alleged theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, including a solar streetlight, road traffic signs, and materials belonging to the Enugu State Water Corporation.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. He said the suspects were arrested in three separate operations between September 15 and 27, 2026.
According to the statement, on September 27, at about 8:30 pm, operatives of the New Haven Police Division acted on a tip-off that two men, Wisdom Nuhu and Moses Jonathan, were negotiating the sale of a suspected stolen solar streetlight at a scrap dump in New Artisan Market, Enugu. The police arrested both men and recovered the streetlight.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that on September 24, at about 3:34 am, operatives of the Abakaliki Road Police Division arrested a 35-year-old man, Chukwudi Nwigbo, along Abakaliki Road, GRA, Enugu. The police said the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre had detected him and an accomplice, who escaped, allegedly removing road traffic signs.
In a third operation on September 15, police arrested two other suspects, Zubairu Hamanpedimso, 31, and Mohamed Adamu, 21.
The command said all five suspects had been arraigned and remanded in correctional custody pending further hearing, while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the officers and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group for their prompt response. The police urged residents to give timely, credible information on activities that could undermine public infrastructure and security.
The suspects have not been tried, and the allegations remain unproven in court.
