Maccido Dumps PDP for ADC, Meets Atiku Abubakar

…Tambuwal Presents Sokoto North Senatorial Candidate to ADC Presidential Flagbearer

CDA News Nigeria reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Ahmed Maccido, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Maccido was presented to the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, by former Sokoto State governor and ADC leader in the state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, during a meeting in Abuja.

The meeting followed Maccido’s withdrawal from the 2027 Sokoto North senatorial race on the PDP platform. Tambuwal was accompanied by the ADC Deputy Director-General, Administration, Yusuf Suleiman, and other party leaders and stakeholders from Sokoto State.

Maccido, a former senator representing Sokoto North, had formally notified the PDP of his decision to withdraw his candidature in a letter dated September 30, 2026, addressed to the state chairman, Hon. Hayattu Tafida. In the letter titled “Notice of Voluntary Withdrawal of Senatorial Candidature,” Maccido said the decision was voluntary and made of his own free will, without disclosing his next political move at the time.

Reacting to the development, Tafida described Maccido’s action as a betrayal of the party and its supporters. He accused the senator of hobnobbing with ADC elements who had earlier frustrated him and denied him the ticket, forcing him to seek refuge in the PDP.

The defection adds a new dimension to the political realignments in Sokoto State and the North-West ahead of the 2027 general elections. CDA News Nigeria reports that the claims and reactions are attributed to the sources cited.
