(Abuja) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is embroiled in a deep internal crisis after rival factions within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) suspended each other on Saturday.
The conflict escalated when a group led by the suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, announced the suspension of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum. The faction cited allegations of incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court orders.
In a parallel move, Senator Anyanwu’s group also suspended several other top officials, including the National Publicity Secretary and the National Financial Secretary. They immediately appointed the party’s North Central Vice Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, as the new Acting National Chairman.
This development came hours after the NWC under Ambassador Damagum’s leadership had announced the suspension of Senator Anyanwu and three other members.
The competing suspensions have thrown the main opposition party into a state of confusion, highlighting the severe internal divisions plaguing its leadership.
