The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, for allegedly pushing a 17-year-old girl from a two-storey building in Owerri.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at about 1:00 pm on Mbonu Ejike Street, Ikeneagbu, Owerri. The victim, identified as Chiamaka Chukwuokore, is said to be the niece of the suspect’s girlfriend.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the suspect and the victim had an altercation during which he pushed her, causing her to fall from the building. The girl sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The incident attracted the fury of neighbours who attempted to lynch the suspect. However, the prompt intervention of police operatives saved him, and he was taken into custody.
The state Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, has assured the public that the incident is being thoroughly investigated to ensure justice is served. He appealed to residents to remain calm, refrain from taking the law into their own hands, and rely on official information sources.
