ABUJA – The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of all 47 unity colleges across Nigeria in response to escalating security threats and rising cases of school abductions.
The directive, announced on Friday, comes as a precautionary measure to protect students following recent mass kidnappings in several states, including the latest incident at St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School in Niger State.
This decision reflects growing concerns over the safety of educational institutions, particularly in regions heavily impacted by banditry and insurgent activities. Parents and guardians have been advised to arrange for the immediate evacuation of their children from the affected schools.
The government has assured that security agencies are working to address the threats and restore normalcy, but no timeline has been given for the possible reopening of the schools.
