A Zamfara State House of Assembly member, Hon. Yusuf Alhassan, was violently assaulted by youths in his Maru South constituency on Wednesday, December 17, over allegations of poor performance.
A viral video from the incident shows the lawmaker being stoned and beaten as his security personnel were overpowered while trying to escort him to safety.
The youths, reportedly angered by what they termed the lawmaker’s inadequate representation, chased and physically attacked him in a dramatic expression of public frustration.
The incident highlights growing tension between constituents and elected officials in some parts of the country, with citizens taking extreme measures to voice grievances.
