The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has attributed the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Wike made the accusation on Monday during his end-of-year media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he claimed Makinde’s actions had destabilized the party’s leadership and deepened divisions.
“Now he said he wants to be president,” Wike stated. “It is Seyi Makinde’s ambition that brought PDP into this crisis.”
The former Rivers governor alleged that Makinde orchestrated moves to undermine the PDP’s national structure, including manipulating the absence of the National Secretary and seeking a favourable judgment from a state high court in Enugu, which he said lacked jurisdiction.
Wike further claimed that despite reconciliation efforts involving leaders like Senator Bukola Saraki and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Makinde repeatedly acted against agreed terms.
“There is nothing we agreed to do that Makinde will not go and do a different thing,” Wike said, “and that is why we are where we are today.”
He added that the case eventually reached the Supreme Court, where Makinde lost, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later recognized Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic PDP National Secretary.
