Abuja, Nigeria — The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is set to inaugurate a special investigative panel today to probe the alleged insertion of a fake government agency into the federal budget.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the panel was constituted following growing public concern over the controversial inclusion of the alleged agency in budget documents despite claims that it was never legally established. The investigation is expected to determine how the agency found its way into the appropriation process and identify those responsible.
The controversy has sparked widespread calls for greater transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s budget preparation and implementation process. Lawmakers are expected to scrutinize relevant documents and invite key government officials and stakeholders to provide explanations.
“The committee has been mandated to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged fake agency and submit its findings and recommendations to the House,” a parliamentary source said.
The panel is expected to begin its assignment immediately after inauguration, with stakeholders anticipating recommendations that could strengthen oversight and prevent similar incidents in future budget cycles.
