Abia Government Raises Alarm Over Planned Protest, Warns Against Violence

The Abia State Government has raised concerns over an alleged plan by political actors to sponsor a protest aimed at destabilizing the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Alex Otti, the government claimed it had received intelligence indicating that certain individuals are mobilizing youths to stage a protest tagged “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”

According to the statement, the planned protest is allegedly designed to create tension, provoke clashes with security operatives, and mislead the public regarding the funding of infrastructure projects in the state. The government maintained that previous clarifications had been made concerning federal reimbursements and project funding.

Ekeoma warned that while the government respects citizens’ rights to peaceful protest and dissent, it would not tolerate any attempt to incite violence or disrupt public order. He cautioned parents and guardians to advise their children against participating in what he described as politically motivated actions.

“The government will come hard on any individual or group that seeks to endanger lives or destabilize the state under any guise,” the statement added.

The Abia State Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, ensuring security, and upholding democratic freedoms, while urging residents to remain law-abiding.
