ADC Blasts Sunday Dare Over Atiku’s Fuel Subsidy Promise: ‘Stop Insulting

ABUJA — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fired back at the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, following his criticism of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his promise to restore fuel subsidy if elected in 2027 .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the ADC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the presidency’s response missed the point and amounted to throwing insults rather than engaging in a substantive debate. The ADC argued that Nigerians deserve a serious conversation about the economic realities they face and how to alleviate them .

Dare had accused Atiku of political opportunism and a “U-turn” on his previous stance regarding fuel subsidy . However, the ADC countered that the core issue is not about inconsistency but about the tangible impact of the subsidy removal on ordinary Nigerians. The party challenged the APC to a public debate on the policy .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the ADC insists any future subsidy regime must be transparent and eliminate the corruption that plagued the previous system. The party has also highlighted the nearly N15.8 trillion realized from the subsidy removal, questioning how it has been utilized to improve the lives of Nigerians . Atiku has also linked the subsidy policy to the broader economic hardship in the country .

The exchange has further escalated the political discourse ahead of the 2027 elections, with the opposition seeking to capitalize on public dissatisfaction over economic conditions . The ADC maintains that its proposal is aimed at creating a targeted subsidy to protect vulnerable Nigerians, not a return to the old system of blanket subsidies and arbitrage .
