Abia APC Ties Federal Appointments to Polling Unit Performance

UMUAHIA — The All Progressives Congress in Abia State has announced that any party leader who fails to win their polling unit, ward, or constituency in the 2027 elections will not be eligible for federal government appointments .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the party chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, made the announcement on Sunday at the APC secretariat in Umuahia during a post-primary election reconciliation meeting.

Chukwu declared: “If you think you have contacts in Abuja and you lose your polling unit, ward and constituency, and you expect to be made a minister, it is impossible under this regime” .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the party will closely monitor the performance of all its members during the 2027 elections . Results from polling units and constituencies of all leaders will be published immediately after the elections for the national leadership to assess performance.

The chairman also warned House of Assembly candidates and other stakeholders against trading the interests of the APC for those of another political party . A peace committee headed by Madukwe Ukaegbu has been inaugurated to reconcile all members ahead of the elections .

The meeting also saw the party back down from its earlier sanction threat against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Rep. Chris Nkwonta over alleged anti-party comments . Chukwu stated that the leadership had chosen unity over sanctions, noting that both lawmakers had privately explained that their comments were not meant to undermine the APC .
