A bill to establish two new local government areas in Abia State has passed its first legislative hurdle in the House of Representatives.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Obi Aguocha, seeks to amend the constitution to create Ikwuano North and Ikwuano South from the existing Ikwuano Local Government Area.
This first reading marks the formal introduction of the proposed law. The bill will now proceed to a second reading, where it will be debated by lawmakers. If successful, it will move to a public hearing before a final vote.
The proposal aims to bring governance closer to the people and accelerate development in the communities.
