Akpabio Approaches Supreme Court Over Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Suspension Case By CDA News Nigeria

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has taken the legal battle surrounding the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Supreme Court, following an unfavourable ruling by the Court of Appeal.

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal had struck out the Federal Government’s brief of argument in the appeal, describing it as defective and incompetent due to multiple violations of the Court of Appeal Rules.

According to court documents, the appellate court cited unauthorised font size and line spacing, failure to seek leave to exceed the 35-page limit, and the absence of an application to regularise the defects as grounds for its decision.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, Akpabio’s legal team is asking the Supreme Court to overturn the decision, arguing that the Court of Appeal denied the Senate President his constitutional right to fair hearing by refusing to allow corrections to the brief.

The case has generated widespread political interest, with analysts describing it as a reflection of deeper tensions within the Senate. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has been at the centre of several confrontations with Senate leadership, a development insiders say has unsettled the power balance within the chamber.

Meanwhile, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will uphold the appellate court’s ruling, describing the appeal as a final attempt to reverse a decision reached in line with established legal procedures.
