Kogi Poly Fires Staff Over Sexual Misconduct, Promotes 583 Others

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has terminated the appointment of a staff member following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student.

The decision was taken during the institution’s 72nd Regular Meeting of the Governing Council, held on Friday, December 19, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Polytechnic’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Mrs. Uredo Omale, the affected officer, Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, was dismissed after due consideration by the Appointments, Promotions, and Disciplinary Committee.

In a related development, the Governing Council also dismissed Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, for being absent from duty for nine months without approval. Additionally, Mr. Audu Mathew, a Deputy Registrar, was demoted to Principal Assistant Registrar for negligence of duty.

The council meeting also approved the promotion of 11 Principal Lecturers to the rank of Chief Lecturer, alongside the advancement of over 570 teaching and non-teaching staff across the institution for the 2024 and 2025 promotion exercises.

The Polytechnic management reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and zero tolerance for misconduct within the institution.
