Akpabio Petitions DSS Over Alleged Anti-Northern Statement

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has formally petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), asking the agency to investigate a statement circulating online that falsely attributes anti-Northern remarks to him.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the petition, dated September 9, 2026, was signed by Akpabio’s Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze, and disclosed publicly by the Senate President’s media aide, Jackson Udom.

According to the petition, a graphic bearing Akpabio’s photograph has been spreading across Facebook and other platforms, quoting him as warning that Northerners would suffer most if President Bola Tinubu lost the 2027 election.

Akpabio has firmly denied ever making the remark, noting that no speech, interview, recording or credible report exists to back the claim. His office described the graphic as lacking any verifiable publisher’s mark, suggesting it was deliberately fabricated to stir regional tension and damage his reputation ahead of the polls.

The petition reportedly identifies a handful of Facebook users believed to be among the earliest people to spread the image, and urges the DSS to trace its true origin and sponsors.

CDA News Nigeria will continue monitoring developments as the DSS responds to the petition.
