The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Moses Paul, has issued a bold warning to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, declaring that the minister cannot manipulate election results in the area council as votes will be protected by residents .
In a video shared on social media while addressing supporters in Abuja, Paul directly challenged Wike’s recent assertion that only candidates supporting President Bola Tinubu would emerge victorious in the February 21 area council elections .
“Tell Wike AMAC is not Obio-Akpor, he cannot write votes in here. We own this city,” Paul declared, referring to Wike’s political base in Rivers State where the minister previously exercised significant political control .
The ADC candidate expressed confidence that residents would defend their mandates at the ballot box, emphasizing that key political figures including Senator Ireti Kingibe would ensure votes count .
“In terms of protecting the votes, Senator Kingibe is there… our vote does count. We came out in 2023. I led protests here for 23 days. I was in DSS custody; I was covering all kinds of things. Of course our vote does count,” Paul stated .
Paul insisted that AMAC belongs to its residents and not to any individual, vowing that Saturday’s election would usher in “a new AMAC” defined by boldness, objectivity, and fearlessness .
“On Saturday, there’s going to be a new AMAC. Enough of people dying, enough of poverty, enough of precariousness. We own this city,” he added .
The exchange comes amid heightened political tension in the FCT, with Wike having declared his intention to support only candidates aligned with President Tinubu regardless of party affiliation . Two PDP chairmanship candidates in AMAC and Bwari have recently stepped down for APC candidates following interventions attributed to Wike .
