The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a blistering press statement challenging Governor Alex Otti to provide verifiable evidence of his administration’s widely publicised claim of constructing 414 roads across the state — describing the figure as a calculated falsehood designed to deceive the people of Abia ahead of the 2027 elections.
In the statement signed by APC Publicity Secretary Uche Aguoru, the party acknowledged that some road rehabilitation work had been carried out under Otti’s watch but firmly rejected the 414 roads claim as exaggerated, deceptive, and existing only on social media propaganda pages rather than in the lived reality of ordinary Abians.
“After a thorough investigation, it has become obvious that these so-called 414 roads exist only on social media propaganda pages and in media briefings, not in the everyday reality of Abians who traverse the roads daily for business, work, and survival,” the statement declared.
The APC demanded that Governor Otti immediately publish the full list of the alleged 414 roads — including their locations, contract sums, and contractors — for independent verification by the Abia State public.
The party launched a broader assault on Otti’s governance record, questioning how an administration that has received close to ₦2 trillion in federal allocations and internally generated revenue in under three years cannot point to a single iconic, groundbreaking infrastructure project comparable to those in neighbouring states like Imo, Anambra, and Enugu.
The APC described the sum of Otti’s achievements as limited to pothole patching, re-asphalting of old roads, closing manholes, one motor park, a few bus shelters, and repainting roofs of existing government facilities — far below what nearly ₦2 trillion in public funds should deliver.
In one of the statement’s most damaging revelations, the APC alleged that the Otti administration spends over ₦360 million quarterly maintaining six decorative water fountains — while civil servants earn as low as ₦23,000, local security operatives survive on ₦40,000 monthly, pensioners are abandoned, gratuities remain unpaid, and the government has refused to fully implement the ₦70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government.
“It is both insensitive, wicked, and indefensible,” the APC declared, accusing the Otti administration of prioritising media optics, skit makers, and staged commissioning ceremonies over the genuine welfare of Abia people.
“Governance is not about media optics or inflated statistics. Governance is about measurable impact on the lives of ordinary people,” the statement read.
The APC concluded with a direct appeal to Abians — demanding transparency, empathy, accountability, and honesty from a government it accused of turning governance into a sophisticated public relations exercise where perception matters more than performance.
Governor Otti’s media team is yet to formally respond to the APC’s challenge at the time of filing this report.
