The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the rescheduling of its governorship primary elections in Bauchi and Kwara states, as well as the extension of State House of Assembly polls in two Zamfara constituencies, in a move that further underscores the turbulence surrounding the party’s 2026 primaries exercise.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced in a statement on Thursday that the governorship primary elections in Bauchi and Kwara states had been rescheduled to Friday, May 22, 2026, adding that the postponement was approved by the National Working Committee after consultations with relevant stakeholders, in line with the party’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, orderly, peaceful, and credible primary election process.
The party also extended the State House of Assembly primary elections for Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara State to Sunday, May 24, 2026, with the rescheduling affecting only those specific governorship and assembly contests.
The inability of the APC leadership to secure consensus arrangements in the affected states was identified as a key factor behind the postponements, with late arrival of electoral materials in Nasarawa State also forcing voters back home, with that exercise expected to be completed on Friday.
The APC has in recent days witnessed a wave of controversies surrounding its primary elections in several states, with aspirants alleging irregularities, imposition, and procedural breaches across the country.
The rescheduled exercises are expected to produce the party’s final lineup of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
