Hon. Ikechukwu Martin Apugo has announced plans to challenge the emergence of another candidate on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, following the publication of INEC’s final list for the 2027 general elections.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that in a statement to his supporters, Apugo said he participated in and won the NDC primary election for the constituency, claiming to possess a sworn affidavit and other INEC documentation affirming his victory.
He expressed concern over the omission of his name from the final list, disclosing that he has instructed his legal team to pursue appropriate legal steps to challenge the development and seek redress through the courts.
Apugo stressed that his decision to pursue judicial redress stems from his commitment to due process and the mandate he believes was entrusted to him by the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia, urging his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and united while the law takes its course.
“The mandate belongs to the people, and we will pursue justice through lawful means,” Apugo said, assuring supporters that the legal dispute would not halt his political activities, as his team continues engagements and mobilisation efforts.
He appealed against any actions capable of causing division among his supporters, reaffirming his commitment to resolving the matter constitutionally, and thanked the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia for their continued support.
CDA News Nigeria will continue monitoring this legal dispute ahead of the 2027 general election.
